Pumpkin Spice season is finally here; we all know what that means. It’s time for a fall capsule wardrobe! It’s still pretty warm everywhere, so you have plenty of time to snag some cute pieces for the chillier weather.
Now, let’s get started! Fall fashion can be described in one word: layers! During fall, one minute, you’re burning up in the sun on the patio, and the next, the sun goes down, and you’re freezing. Layers are essential for a fall capsule wardrobe. Let’s begin by understanding what a capsule wardrobe is.
What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
First, a capsule wardrobe is meant to make your life simple when it comes to choosing an outfit. We want to minimize the items while still being able to create dozens of outfit options. A capsule wardrobe will force you to be intentional with what you purchase. A capsule wardrobe typically consists of 15-20 interchangeable pieces you can wear in multiple ways. You’ll need to match pieces with others in your capsule, so buying a random shirt that doesn’t go with anything won’t make sense. This saves you so much time….and money.
How to Create a Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Next, let’s chat about fall colors. The essential fall color palette consists of earth tones and, of course, black and gray. Gray monochrome has taken over my life lately, so if you want to stick with blacks, grays, and whites, that will totally work! Keep in mind that the examples I’ll share today come in a variety of neutral colors. If you don’t love the brown sweater, switch to the ivory one!

How do I Incorporate Trends?
I get it; trendy items are hard to resist. I have a whole series called Terras Trendsetters! I opt to include trends in my handbags, shoes, and jewelry. For example, suede is super in right now. If you have to choose between a suede jacket or a suede handbag, go for the handbag! Think about what’s timeless in the long run instead of the right now. Not only does this help you create a classic look, it get’s you away from the fast-fashion mania.
Outerwear and Accessories
A fall capsule wardrobe won’t be complete without jackets, shoes, and jewelry. This is the area to let your personal style shine! Throwing in a trendy leopard print bag or colorful pair of Adidas still works with just about everything, so get creative!
Be sure to have a variety of jackets—one that’s casual and another that you can dress up a bit. A long and thick cardigan coat works both ways, making it a great option! Another classic option is a black leather jacket, as it will match literally everything. Below, I show a cropped trench coat, but a full-length one will work just as well!

Gold jewelry is a fall staple, so I tend to stick with it. A few mixed-metal pieces are calling my name, though, and they look stunning with the black and gray color palette!
