Summer to Fall Wardrobe Essentials for Over 30

As the days get a little shorter and evenings become slightly brisk, we know fall is just around the corner! Don’t rush to put your summer wardrobe essentials away, as most of the things you have in your closet can be used well into fall! But if you’re over 30, you may be wondering how to stay stylish without looking like you’re trying too hard. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make the most of your summer wardrobe while still looking chic and age-appropriate. I’ve compiled a transitional wardrobe essentials list for things I always keep in my closet for summer & fall! A few slight tweaks to your outfits will make them perfect for those chillier nights.

BODYSUITS

Bodysuits are 100% a summer-to-fall wardrobe essential! They look absolutely adorable with a simple pair of jeans and you can easily throw a cardigan over them to stay warm! Abercrombie is my one-stop shop for bodysuits. They have every style, neutral color, and neck cut variety you could dream of! They even have a large variety of materials! From super soft modals to thicker sweater wrap bodysuits, be sure to check out their selection! Below are a few of my favorites.

JEANS & PANTS

Let’s chat about jeans! For late summer, I prefer cropped ankle jeans. The biggest reason is that you can wear cute mules or heels with them, and they’re still long enough to keep you warm! During late summer, I like to switch to darker denim to easily match the darker tones of the upcoming fall season.

Late summer pants can include a variety of different materials. Linen, satin, and tailored pants are all perfect for this time of year!

Styling Tailored Pants

Another type of pant to try is the tailored style. These are PERFECT with a bodysuit! They’re light enough to wear during the day while still keeping you warm in the evenings. Lastly, these are so easy to layer, and they match just about any type of shoe!

CARDIGANS

This may be the number one clothing item you need for transitional weather. It’s definitely a wardrobe essential you shouldn’t skip. A cardigan is one of those things you can quickly grab out of your closet without much thought. They can match just about any outfit and are perfect for layering! I put together these two looks for the office and travel day.

Styling Cardigans

I can’t preach enough about the ease of layering with cardis! It’s as simple as throwing on a matching one over your everyday summer tee & skirt! They’re also perfect with jeans, tailored pants, and shorts! I always travel with a lightweight one that will fit into my carry-on! Planes are freezing!

OUTERWEAR

Outerwear can be tricky for this time of year. Depending on where you live, you may have 80-degree weather through October. For those of you who get chillier evenings and storms, having a few jacket options is a good idea! I love a basic long sweater coat as it’s super simple to style and matches everything. For rainier climates, you can’t go wrong with a light and flowy trench coat that keeps you dry yet not overheating! Here in Missouri, it’s cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. Layers are a must!

A tailored jacket is always a classic and can be worn with jeans, skirts, or matching tailored pants! For more casual outfits, a denim or bomber jacket will go together perfectly. I love a lightweight bomber jacket over my workout clothes for a casual look that’s protected from the wind.

SHOES

Mules and neutral sneakers are the late summer wardrobe essentials! Mules can immediately dress up a pair of jeans and a bodysuit as compared to sandals. They’re the perfect option for those of us who hate heels.

A neutral sneaker is also a great addition to either a tailored pant ensemble or with a simple bodysuit and shorts! We also can’t forget to add a neutral cowboy boot with a cute dress!

HATS

It’s time to switch out the straw hats for a felt material! I’m a strong believer that a cute and well-paired hat can really make an outfit! Below are a few of my favorite options for the late summer to fall transition! I will have to get out my favorites from winter storage to show you mine! I want to grab a new one this year for sure.
