While some may be fans of the stark white kitchen, I prefer to create a warm and inviting kitchen space. Our home is an open floor plan. You see our kitchen immediately when you walk into the living area, and I wanted mine to reflect my love for earthy neutrals and organic decor. Here are some tips for creating a warm and inviting kitchen you want to cook in. Oh, and BTW – our wall color is White Dove, and our cabinet color is Pashmina, both by Benjamin Moore!
Earth Toned Elements
Adding organic elements can be as simple as adding open wood shelving or wood-based decor on your counters and island. Use a warm-toned greige for your wall paint, and if you’re feeling extremely creative, a jewel-toned green can be stunning. But, of course, a warm-toned white will do the trick if you prefer a more neutral look and feel.
Wood is the easiest way to incorporate a warm and cozy feel into any space. Wood immediately creates an organic vibe, whether it’s decorative accents, furniture pieces, or wood planking on the walls or ceiling. We used rift-cut white oak sealed with a matte ‘provincial’ stain everywhere in the house.
Decorative Accents
Not many people add art to their kitchen, but it’s one of the most underrated ways to add warmth to a space. Vintage-inspired framed paintings provide a sense of nostalgia and personal touch to your kitchen. It’s a great way to have your decor style flow through all the rooms in your home, which should include your kitchen! Small decorative accents are the best way to create a warm and inviting kitchen. From artwork to decorative bows and jars, I’ll link some of my favorite kitchen additions below!
Secondly, I love using large vases with branches or flowers. Not only does this allow me to make seasonal decor changes easily, but it also brings so much charm into any room! Adding greenery to an open countertop space instantly brings life to it. As you can see in my photos, there are sprinkles of plants and stems just about everywhere.
Make your Kitchen Accessible
One of my favorite elements of my kitchen is the countertop cabinets! It’s the best place to store kitchen appliances like toasters, a KitchenAid mixer, and items you use every day like coffee pods! It keeps countertops clutter-free, so you can add decor pieces instead! The key to a comfortable kitchen is convenience and accessibility, and countertop cabinets do just that!
I also love using glass canisters to hold a lot of things. Firstly, they’re much more aesthetically pleasing than that blue pasta box in your pantry, and they’re actually much easier to grab and use. You can even keep some of them out on the counter if it’s something you use daily, like ground coffee!
